The Philippine Health Research Ethics Board through its Committee on Standards and Accreditation, has granted a Level 2 Full Accreditation to Region 1 Health Research and Development Consortium (R1HRDC) – Ethics Review Committee (ERC) effective July 01, 2023 until June 30, 2025. As per 2022 National Ethical Guidelines for Research Involving Human Participants, Level 2 accredited REC reviews all types of research except clinical trials required for FDA registration of new drugs before its implementation.
Through the leadership of the OIC/Vice Chairman Dr. Marivic M. Alimbuyuguen, with the help of other 8 members, and with the support of the consortium Chairperson Dr. Maria Lourdes K. Otayza, the committee was rigorously evaluated by their adherence to international and national research ethics guidelines according to six (6) standards below:

Functionality of structure and composition

Adequacy of standard operating procedures and consistency of implementation

Completeness of review process

Adequacy of post-approval procedures

Efficiency of the recording and archiving system

Adequacy of administrative support
The R1HRDC-ERC’s certificate was awarded virtually during the celebration of the Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) Week last August 18, 2023. They shall be included in the list of accredited RECs in the PHREB website.
