The 13th Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) Week celebration shall be on August 13-16, 2019 at Limketkai Luxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City, with this year's theme: “Achieving Health-related Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through Research and Innovation.".

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) will celebrate the 2019 National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) on July 17-21, 2019 at the World Trade Center, Pasay City. This aims to highlight the significant contributions of Science and Technology to national development.

With the theme: "Science for the People: Enabling Technologies for Sustainable Development" , the celebration will showcase the latest innovations in technologies, products, and research that can help achieve the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Also, scientific meetings, technical and investment forums, technology demonstrations, and technical tours are lined up as part of this year's NSTW. This event is open to the public and free admission.

The Regional Ethics Monitoring Board – 1 (REMB – 1), alongside with the Sub Committee on Standards on Accreditation (CSA), evaluated three applications of REC accreditation held last June 3, 2019 at the Mariano Marcos Memorial Hospital and Medical Center, Batac City, Ilocos Norte. The said applications include: (1) DOH Drug Treatment and Rehabilitation Center, Research Ethics Committee in Pangasinan, (2) Lorma Colleges, Research Ethics Committee in La Union and (3) University of Northern Philippines Ethics Review Committee in Ilocos Sur.

Every year, the Philippine Science High School conducts the National Competitive Examination (NCE), a one-time screening examination to determine the qualifiers for PSHS scholarship.  They are now accepting applicants for this year’s NCE, which will be held on 19 October 2019.

The Region 1 Health Research and Development Consortium (R1HRDC) thru the Research Utilization Committee (RUC), once again spearheaded the 2019 Regional Research Conference on May 22, 2019 at Northwestern University, Laoag City, Ilocos Norte with this year’s theme: “Research Outputs as Inputs towards Evidence-Based Practice for Quality Life”. It aimed to: (1) develop and strengthen health research network thru health research conference; (2) encourage researchers to conduct quality research with the highest ethical standard that contribute to the improvement of the quality of life; and (3) equip the participants with the knowledge, skills and values for effective and efficient adoption and utilization of health research.

The highlight of the event is the oral presentation and poster exhibit contest of completed research papers which was divided into 2 (two) categories: Student and Professional. On March 4, 2019, the RUC has called for the submission of completed papers which was screened and assessed by the Research Management Committee (RMC). Out of 90 (30 from professionals and 60 from students) submitted papers, the following researches emerged as winners during the said conference:

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) continuously provides assistance to relevant R&D endeavors to push the development of local and appropriate technologies with socio-economic benefits for the people. This is to ensure that new knowledge and information are generated to increase productivity and ensure quality products and processes in the country.

Please be informed that the Call for Proposals for CY 2021 funding and implementation under the DOST Grant-In-Aid (GIA) Program is now open. We enjoin you to submit proposals that are aligned with the priority areas under the Harmonized National Research and Development Agenda (HNRDA) 2017-2022. We strongly encourage proposals that the forge linkage between the government, academe and the industry sector to ensure the development of demand-driven technologies and most important projects that will ensure the transfer of technologies developed from completed R&D projects funded by DOST-GIA.

For your guidance, below are deadlines for submission of proposals:
