The 17th Philippine National Health Research System (PNHRS) Week Celebration is fast approaching. With the theme, "Leveraging Global Networks in Advancing the National Health Research System." The event highlights not only the crucial role of research in improving health outcomes for Filipinos but also the importance of harnessing the power of joint efforts, local, national and global, in tackling complex health challenges and in accelerating health research and medical innovations.

In partnership with Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation (VMUF), the Region 1 Health Research and Development Consortium (R1HRDC) through the Research Utilization Committee (RUC), successfully conducted a regional-wide 2024 R1HRDC Research Conference on June 21, 2024 in the said university. With the theme, "Empowering Health Innovations: Uniting Minds, Ensuring Ethics, and Celebrating Excellence in Research". Keynote speaker in this momentous event is Dr. Jaime C. Montoya, Executive Director, of the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD).
Aside from the competing papers, the other 33 completed research papers submitted by the different member institutions were all advanced for the oral and poster presentations - Professional and Student categories (Competing and Non-competing) to also showcase and to give recognition to the efforts of those institutions who are REC non-accredited institutions. The Capacity Building Committee (CBC) under the Region 1 Health Research and Development Consortium (R1HRDC) successfully conducted a two-day face-to-face Research Training on Data Management on May 23-24, 2024 at Paragon Hotel, Baguio City. The goal is to capacitate research committee members and researchers on the different methodologies in collecting, processing, and storing research data. This capacity building activity was attended and participated in by forty-four (44) researchers, technical review board (TRB) members, and research management committee (RMC) members from different member institutions.

Theme: Maximizing Benefits through Responsible Conduct of Research
An annual program of the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD) Undergraduate Thesis Grant in Natural Products to provide funding to all undergraduate students who wish to conduct their thesis on natural products from microorganisms and plants which aims to sustain a research culture in natural products to increase the number of research and consequently build a pool of researchers/experts specializing in the field. The program supports the Drug Discovery and Development (Tuklas Lunas) program of the DOST-PCHRD which aims to develop safe, effective, and affordable alternative drugs from the country’s natural resources.
As part of the Region 1 Health Research and Development Consortium’s (R1HRDC) program, the R1HRDC received a total of 16 Capsule Research Proposals for possible funding and reviewed by the Research Management Committee (RMC) on March 21, 2024, at El Cielito Hotel, Baguio City.
The main objective of the program is to grant funding to our budding and professional researchers in the region who wish to conduct meaningful health research. A maximum of Php999,999.000 research fund will be granted to all qualified research proposals.
In line with their mandate, a call for research proposal submission was conducted from January to March 15, 2024. The program was opened to all professional researchers from R1HRDC member institutions who wish to conduct health research in their field.
