The Capacity Building Committee (CBC), of the Region 1 Health Research and Development Consortium (R1HRDC) successfully spearheaded the two-day Strategic Communication on Health Research Training and Workshop held last September 24-25, 2024 at Hotel Veniz, Baguio City with resource speaker, Dr. Marvin F. Munar, Chief of Hospital III, Treatment and Rehabilitation Center-La Union. This activity aimed to enhance knowledge of basic principles in strategic communication and to develop the participant’s skills in effective written, oral, non-verbal, and visual communication focusing on health research.
On the first day, a training workshop was conducted after the lectures and open interactive sessions on the different communication were finished whereby the 26 participants from the different R1HRDC member institutions were divided into 4 groups. The following day was the highlight of the activity. Each group was assigned to various communication strategies for the oral and written presentation wherein 2 Groups was tasked to had a 3-Minute Pitch project brief while the other Groups had a research forum oral presentation. Following this and on the same day, a mini-research conference was conducted whereby representative from each group presented their outputs based on their assignments. The speaker, Dr. Munar served as the panel of judges/reactor. Thereafter, the result of their finished papers was presented.
To conclude the activity, the CBC Chairman, Dr. Unity Cortez emphasized the training design focuses on developing knowledge and skills in communicating the best message from the research conducted, through the use of correct and appropriate channels, to the right people, at the right time and to use effective feedback mechanisms from this whole communication process to stay focus on the direction intended for the research topic.
