The R1HRDC through the Research Utilization Committee (RUC) conducted an online Training on Writing Effective Policy Briefs on August 24-25, 2021, joined by a total of 34 participant – researchers. Dr. Shiela V. Siar, Director/Manager of Research Information Department – Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), was tapped as the resource speaker.

 

The 34 participants are from the different Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), universities, and hospitals in Region 1. They are varieties of new and seasoned researchers in the field of health research.

 

The topics that were discussed includes: (1) Policy brief and its characteristics; (2) Basic structure of a policy brief; (3) Sources of topics for policy briefs; (4) Preparing a policy brief based on the results of a study or data gathered; and (5) Techniques on how to write clear and concise policy.

 

 

The training was conducted to be able to teach the participants on how to: (a) describe the characteristics and elements of a policy brief; (b) describe the structure and contents of a policy brief; (c) prepare a policy brief on their chosen topic; (d) understood the techniques for writing clear and concise sentences; and (e) learn tips to effectively edit policy briefs.

 

Converting research results into policy brief requires a special knowledge where it should be presented in a brief, direct to the point, and in clear manner so that our Legislators and Administrators can be persuaded to implement and adopt proposed policies.
