To further assist the R1HRDC member institutions in organizing their Research Ethics Committee (REC) and prepare for accreditation, the Capacity Building Committee (CBC) conducted an online session entitled “Journey to REC Accreditation: Sharing of Best Practices and Workshop” on October 28, 2022.

Mr. Ariel Bacani, a pioneer member of the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB) – Regional Ethics Monitoring Board 1 (REMB 1) since 2017 shared topics about the institutionalization of RECs and the accreditation process highlighting the important national and international ethical guidelines. The Chairmen from three (3) accredited RECs in the region namely Fr. Alfredo Corpuz of UNP-ERC, Mr. Eric Vincent Maminta of DTRC-REC, and Dr. Imelda Larissa Sanchez of ITRMC-REC, were also invited to share their accreditation journey vis-à-vis their best practices and tips on how to manage the accreditation process. During the workshop, the participants from the 3 attending institutions identified their current status and they developed a plan on how they can move forward and become a functional ethics committee.
