Through the initiative of the Region 1 Health Research and Development Consortium (R1HRDC) – Capacity Building Committee (CBC), the Best Performing Partner Institutions and Individuals in Health Research for CY 2021 in Region 1 were recognized during the consortium’s 4th quarter Management Committee Meeting last December 22, 2021, online via zoom video conferencing.
Among the awardee’s, in no particular order, were:
A special award for Accredited RECs was also given to DRUG TREATMENT AND REHABILITATION CENTER – DAGUPAN, and NORTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY.
Prior to the awarding ceremony, a systematic nomination and selection process were conducted by assessing the achievements and contributions of the nominees through their health research involvement, with the following criteria:
For the Best Performing Partner Institutions
Capacity Assessment (30%). This involves the presence of accredited institutional based Research Ethics Review Committee (REC), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and other research facility/equipment available.
Training Activities (35%). These are the conducted formal trainings (within the institution to capacitate each personnel), formal trainings attended by employees (conducted by other training institutions), and research dissemination activities.
Research Output (35%). This pertains to research outputs presented locally/internationally in reputable fora or competitions, published research papers in at least one research in peer reviewed journal for the current year, and the received awards/recognition by the institution’s researches.
For the Best Performing Individuals
Research Guidance (50%). The nominees must have research work - mentoring/ advising/ coaching for at least of 3 years and served as speaker during trainings.
Track Record in Research (50%). Must became a main author/ contributor of a published (peer reviewed) research or must conducted research implemented and presented in conferences locally/ internationally. Their research (as Main Author/ Principal Investigator), locally or internationally funded, must had received award/s.
The said awards were initiated to serve as an inspiration to other institutions and researchers to become instruments in upholding health research activities in Region 1. Recognizing their achievements and acknowledging their countless acts signified that they are worthy to be appreciated.
